About Us
This site and our socials are maintained entirely by volunteers, retired researchers, a webmaster, with a dash of AI, with simple goal of sharing Oregon quake information, real-time news and preparedness. If you want to discuss anything from grants, to partnerships to volunteers, please contact us!
Also known as the “Good Friday Quake”, this costly Big One struck offshore Anchorage AK in 1964, a tsunami caused over 100 deaths including 5 fatalities in Oregon and 12 when Crescent City CA flooded 29 blocks inland.

AI Disclaimer & Policy
So yes! We proudly use artificial intelligence (AI) to support our mission of earthquake preparedness. From generating quirky memes to brainstorming safety tips, AI does help us connect with the community in engaging, creative ways.
Why We Love AI!
AI brings a very quirky, attention getting spark to our team. Whether it’s creating wild memes featuring Buck Hardwoods or helping us tailor safety advice for the Pacific Northwest, it really does allow us to think bigger and connect better. It lets us focus on our partners, message, mission, and more!
What AI Does
- Creates memes, stories, and character-driven content to make preparedness engaging and attention grabbing.
- Helps us localize and provide safety tips for Oregon’s unique challenges, like the Cascadia Subduction Zone, tsunamis, landslide, mudslide and rockslide awareness.
- Supports our real-time seismic data integration to keep you informed. Notifies us of issues or problems in many dimensions.
What AI Doesn’t Do
- Provide emergency guidance—always follow trusted sources like FEMA Ready.gov, Oregon heath authority or your local government. We partner and promote them.
- Handle sensitive data or privacy-related tasks—we rely on humans for most stuff actually.
- Replace expert knowledge— AI is used only to amplify and advocates for the expertise of geologists, engineers, and emergency planners.
Your Feedback Fuels Us
Got a great idea for a spicy meme, topic or campaign? Think you can outwit our AI? Send your suggestions to support@oregonquake.org. Your creativity helps us!
